Redesigning for a new vision. The UW Medicine magazine was completely reimagined with this issue, at the same time as its online edition, with both versions focusing on image-driven storytelling. Streamlining the content to tell the most interesting stories in the most engaging way in order to share the excellence at UW Medicine with a wide audience. This new direction added art direction to my existing responsibility for cover to cover design.
Taking an unforgettable journey. The cover story in this magazine relates one woman’s journey toward mental health. Her story was designed to help readers empathize with those who suffer from mental illness, and personalize the staggering statistics surrounding mental health in the United States. It’s joined by two other stories: that of a man who received a heart transplant and a researcher who’s on her way to treating celiac disease. Focusing on powerful, intimate imagery in the first two stories, and an illustrated path in the third, this issue takes the reader on journeys of transformation in the most engaging way possible.
