Seeing beauty everywhere. This issue of the magazine included several arresting stories. On the cover, we featured a story about a Harborview nurse who paints portraits of people experiencing homelessness (while raising money for safety-net services). Another story featured a Native Alaskan dad, now a medical student at the UW School of Medicine, whose education — like the creation of a totem pole — was the work of many caring hands. Other stories show how to lower barriers for providing medical care for at-risk youth — and encouraging youth of color to consider careers in medicine. The video in Truly Seen received a bronze award from CASE for multimedia in 2019. Art directing the imagery allowed the design of this issue to focus on the beauty and heart in each story in print and online.
